Knole U3A held its first online AGM on Monday 28th September making use of the Zoom video conference facility. The meeting was quorate with over 110 members in attendance, and voting held on six Resolutions. These included the approval of the 2019 Minutes, the Trustees Report, the Treasurer’s Report and Accounts for the year ending 31st March 2020, a membership subscription of £10 for the current year, the appointment of Andrew Dunk as our External Examiner, and most importantly and vital to the running of our U3A - the election of the new committee! All Resolutions were overwhelmingly carried, and the meeting completed in just over 30 minutes.
Most of the members who participated found it a painless and interesting exercise, but it was of course no substitute for a meeting in a hall where members can enjoy a post-AGM talk, face to face conversations with friends, an tea with homemade cake!
Hopefully next year we will be able run our normal AGM at the end of June in the refurbished Sevenoaks Community Centre. If not, Knole U3A now has experience of how to run an AGM online which at least meets our constitutional requirements. And as members’ familiarity and expertise with digital communications grows, we can look forward to adding some extra bells and whistles.
