The Half-day Walking group enjoyed the countryside between Farnborough and High Elms with a pleasant five and half mile stroll through fields and woodland this month. The Nature Reserve there is great for seeing orchids and other wild flowers in early July.
The High Elms Country Park through which the group walked in part, has some 250 acres of woodland and meadows to explore and was the former country home of the Lubbock family. The estate is now maintained by the London Borough of Bromley and is ideal for a range of short walks with good footpaths and enjoying the woodland and spotting the wildlife – flowers, birds and insects! There are two car parks, both off High Elms Road, but you can access the park via footpaths from Farnborough Village High Street. OS Explorer Map 147
