London Studies get to eat in Brixton Prison
London Studies programme of visits over the past 9 years reads like a bible of the best London has to offer in terms of its history, iconic buildings and examples of the depth and breadth of its culture. Its November visit to the Capital added an unusual example with a visit to the highly respected Clink restaurant in Brixton prison.
The visit ably organised by Lesley Jolly, started off with a thorough security check before we could sit down to an excellent lunch. The Brixton Clink restaurant is one of four training restaurants which provide prisoners with the opportunity to gain new skills and qualifications in catering, and the Clink charity provides support to the graduates to help them secure employment and accommodation on release. A similar programme is provided for prisoners who want to eventually work in horticulture. An excellent example of a project to substantially reduce reoffending and well worth supporting – and have a great meal at the same time!
