Susan Slater: The Colour Blue
Susan is a fellow U3A member from Rugby U3A, where the "Colour Blue" talk made its debut. Susan explores the science of colour, concentrating on blue - mainly exploring the physics of what colour is, and the biology of how it is perceived. Then, aware that blue pigments have historically always been very expensive, Susan will explain how the rarity of naturally occurring sources of blue pigments had political repercussions, and led to the making of artificial blue pigments, and then to the development of the modern pharmaceutical industry.
