Knole’s Science Group were formed nearly 10 year ago and in that time organised a comprehensive series of talks on science and technology issues. The current programme that commenced last October has already covered such diverse topics as Looking for life in space, Mathematical modelling of the spread of infectious diseases (very topical given the current Coronavirus epidemic), the future of nuclear technologies, and architectural glass. Future talks will embrace how to feed the world in 2050 (Thursday 5th March), A talk from Southern Water (2nd April) and The Development of crane ships for offshore construction (7th May). The talk on February on Architectural Glass by Chris Stewart was an excellent account of historic and modern glass making technologies and the various types of specialist glass now used in modern buildings.
